Kids Math Games
Fun math games for kids
Your child may have trouble retaining the
information they learn in math class. You can help them to
remember this information with fun math games for kids. You
can tailor kids’ math games to suit any grade level,
making sure your child is getting practice in the areas where
it is needed most. Kids’ math games can be fun counting
games, interactive online games, and games you create at home.
A popular counting game you can play with your child is Connect
Four®. The objective of this kids’ math game is
to be the first player to get your four checkers in a row
horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Often played simply
for its entertainment value, Connect Four® reinforces
a child’s ability to count, to keep track of various
sums, and to use problem solving and strategy in association
with math. A fun interactive math game for kids currently
in stores is Math Mat Challenge®. This math game gets
kids to literally think on their feet with an interactive
talking floor mat that will teach counting, addition, and
subtraction all the way up to the number 20.
You can also make fun math games at home. One example of
an easy game to play with your child is to take several old
buttons of different colors, separate them by color, and then
make them into math problems: 3 red buttons + 7 blue buttons
= 10 buttons. Your child can strengthen their mathematical
skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
As your child advances their math skills, you can make the
game more difficult by having them create fractions from the
buttons rolled: 4 buttons removed from 6 -buttons = 4/6.
Another popular resource for math games is the Internet.
A fast-growing trend among schools and parents alike is the
use of online math games to reinforce math curriculum. You
should be able to find a large variety of free math games
designed to assist you and your child online. To locate them,
type “kids online math games” into your favorite
search engine. Have fun with them as you enhance your child’s
mathematical learning!
