Fun with Math
Fun math games & activities for your child
For many children and parents, the words
“fun” and “math” are rarely associated
with one another. For children facing challenges with their
math curriculum, math homework may be a frustrating reminder
of shortcomings in the classroom, when it should be a reinforcement
of learned concepts. One way to help children increase their
understanding of math is to make it fun by incorporating their
homework into a series of hands-on math games and fun activities
and utilizing outside tutoring.
As children fall behind in math, they often
begin to question the purpose of the subject in its entirety.
Going through your child’s homework with them and finding
the trouble spots can help you incorporate math into practical
games. One way to do this is to implement activities that
involve personal finance. Help your child open a lemonade
stand. Take them to the grocery store with you and ask them
to keep a running tally of items in their head. If your child
is working on division, have them figure out the cost of each
ounce of a grocery item by dividing total price by weight.
There are also a variety of fun math games and software packages
available online for grades K-12 that can make math more enjoyable
for your child. These games touch on a wide range of subjects,
use animation, and include interactive examples to spark your
child’s imagination.
If you find that even with such fun math activities and online
assistance your child still needs extra math help, you can
seek out a tutoring facility. A tutoring facility will be
able to diagnose your child, finding areas of difficulty and
teaching your child according to their specific needs. With
a combination of fun games, activities and various teaching
techniques, your child should be able to overcome any challenges
they experience with math and enjoy the process!
